New Merrell Boots and a First time Backpacker

Echo Lake, Calif. is a popular end point for many backpackers who start on the Pacific Crest Trail in Death Valley, Calif.

The perfect combination of footwear and socks to keep blisters from forming.

Echo Lake, pristine and clear. It was to be Stephanie Roberts' destination after a six week sojourn. Sure, she’d hiked and camped before.  But, she had never taken a trip like this until the summer of 2015. The summer before she turned the big 3-0. She was motivated to join her boyfriend at the time on the trail who was following in the footsteps of Reese Witherspoon's character in the movie Wild. But her body wasn’t prepared for the rigors of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Up until then her feet didn’t know the daily painful trudge through a variety of terrain.

It took her two pairs of hiking boots to find ones that were comfortable to her blistered (then lanced) feet. Through trial and error she found that a base silk sock inside a wool sock inside a Merrell Moab Ventilator Mid hiking boot was the most soothing and supportive solution.

In the end she didn’t make it to her destination, but she did survive.

For Stephanie, the journey is more meaningful and this experience in particular, a pivotal high point. She felt like she was able to gain a greater sense of self-reliance, purpose and clarity from the trip.
